Twenty-one days, 5,781 photos, four substantive destinations

Read from 5,781 photo timestamps across 4 effective country destinations + Istanbul transit, with coord-checks confirming Hong Kong stayed inside SAR territory.
The argument
Twenty-one days across Hong Kong, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand, carrying Christmas week 2023 into mid-January 2024 - and the most photographed trip we’ve ever made by daily rate. Hong Kong opens with five days, including New Year’s Eve at Victoria Harbour, then eight days in Vietnam between Hà Nội and the central coast around Hội An, Đà Nẵng and likely Huế, then three days each in Luang Prabang and Bangkok. The densest stretch of the whole trip is in Hong Kong: three consecutive 500-photo days across the Lantau Buddha, the New Year’s Eve fireworks, and New Year’s Day itself.

The three-day Hong Kong burst is the densest seventy-two hours we’ve ever shot. The big waterfront clusters sit on the Tsim Sha Tsui promenade on the Kowloon side, looking straight across at the Island skyline - exactly where you stand to watch the harbour fireworks come down over the water.

Three consecutive 500-photo days over New Year - the Lantau Buddha, the harbour fireworks, and New Year’s Day - the densest run of the whole trip.
28-29 Dec - the Istanbul transit and the arrival into Hong Kong, the trip still gathering itself.
30 Dec - Victoria Peak, the Avenue of Stars, and the long arc out to the Tian Tan Buddha on Lantau.
31 Dec - New Year’s Eve on Victoria Harbour, the fireworks over the water.
1 Jan - New Year’s Day, the burst still going.
2 Jan - a last full Hong Kong day before moving on.

Jan 5 is the Vietnam peak - most likely the Hạ Long Bay boat day out of Hà Nội, the limestone karsts rising out of the water.
3 Jan - arrival into the Hà Nội Old Quarter, straight into its tangle of streets.
4 Jan - more of Hà Nội, the city settling in.
5 Jan - the Vietnam peak day, almost certainly Hạ Long Bay.
6 Jan - the flight south to the central coast, and the first evening in Hội An’s old town.
7-9 Jan - the central-coast rhythm, with a long day inside the Huế imperial citadel.
10 Jan - the central-Vietnam wrap-up before Laos.

Jan 12 is the Luang Prabang peak - the dawn alms ceremony and the turquoise tiers of the Kuang Si falls in one day.
11 Jan - the transit day out of Vietnam into Laos.
12 Jan - the big Luang Prabang day, almost all of it in the UNESCO old town.
13 Jan - more of Luang Prabang, the trip’s quietest, gentlest stretch.

A canonical South-East Asia tour, so an off-path score isn’t the point. The story is the sheer intensity - the highest sustained shooting rate we’ve ever recorded - and the three-day Hong Kong New Year burst that anchors the whole trip.

absentMainland ChinaDespite 2,023 photos tagged CN, coord-check confirms 2,016 at Hong Kong + 7 near the HK/Zhuhai border. 0 photos in Beijing / Shanghai / Xi’an. The trip stayed inside SAR territory — the user visited mainland China the following year (2025 trip).
absentMacauThe cross-Pearl-River sister-SAR · reachable as a day-trip from HK · 0 photos at any Macau coord. The Dec 30 Lantau arc reached west but stopped short of Macau.
absentHạ Long BayMost likely the Jan 5 peak day out of Hà Nội, but the bay’s centre shows no photos at all. With a water feature this vast a boat tour could easily have stayed in one of the side bays well away from the middle - so this is inferred, not confirmed.
absentCambodia (Angkor Wat)Geographically central to the SE-Asia region · accessible from Bangkok or Laos · not visited.
absentMyanmarAdjacent to Thailand + Laos · not visited.
absentHong Kong outlying islandsThe Dec 30 Lantau touch reached Tian Tan Buddha but no clear cluster at Cheung Chau / Lamma / Po Toi.
A four-country South-East Asia core, with mainland China, Cambodia and Myanmar the obvious gaps around it. The mainland-China absence is the interesting one: the tags hint at a China visit, but the actual locations stay firmly inside Hong Kong. Mainland China would get its own trip in 2025; this was the SAR-plus-Indochina core, deliberately scoped.
