Moieciu de Sus

Three days, 145 photos, the Bran-Moieciu valley in August

19 - 21 August 2017

Read from 145 photo timestamps + walking-pace GPS-pair geometry on Aug 20 (no Apple Health logging yet); coords clustered along the upper Moieciu valley + Fundățica plateau.

A late-August weekend at Moieciu de Sus - the same valley as the October 2016 hike, revisited in summer and at a gentler radius. We drove up on Saturday afternoon, settled into a long sunset-and-dinner cluster at the pension that evening, walked a Sunday arc through Moieciu de Sus, Cheia and Fundățica and back, and left early Monday before the day could build. The standout is the contrast itself: the August pace covers far less ground than the autumn one did in this exact valley - the economy of movement that summer heat at altitude imposes.

The frames trickle in from early afternoon at a one-at-a-time pace - the drive up, the odd roadside stop. Things gather toward early evening as we reach Moieciu and settle, then break into a single concentrated burst around 18:00 and a softer one after: unmistakably a sunset-and-dinner evening. The burst mixes Moieciu de Sus and Fundățica, which reads as a walk up from the pension to a viewpoint and then the long table afterward.

The heart of the trip. A morning climb north-west out of Moieciu de Sus, working up to Cheia by late morning - the furthest the day reached, a few kilometres above the start. Then the hottest part of the afternoon goes silent: no photos through the high-sun hours, the lunch-and-shade gap that August heat at this altitude all but forces. The walk resumes for a Fundățica stretch mid-afternoon, drifts back through Moieciu de Sus, and ends with an evening stroll - roughly ten kilometres on foot across the day.

Two early frames at Moieciu de Sus and then the drive home - the trip ends before the morning has a chance to become anything.

  1. Moieciu de Sus / Fundățica ~55% popular among RO hikers, low international
  2. Cheia (Moieciu) ~60% the upper-valley walking arc

Same Romanian-Carpathian baseline asymmetry as the Oct 2016 Predeluț brief — popular locally, sparse in English Flickr coverage. The honest read is ‘well-known among the people who walk here’.

  1. absent Bran Castle 6 km E of the lodging, never visited. Same datum as the Oct 2016 trip — the user lodges within 10 km of Romania’s most-photographed castle and never goes.
  2. absent Piatra Craiului ridge ascent (Curmătura / Vârful La Om) The Sun walking arc reached Fundățica but stopped well below the ridge proper. A real ascent would have left 20+ photos on a steep elevation gain — there aren’t any.
  3. absent Brașov, Râșnov fortress, Râșnov rock Never appear in the 3-day data.
  4. absent Măgura / Peștera The Piatra Craiului east-flank villages on the other side of the massif. Visited in Oct 2016 but skipped here — this trip stayed shorter, closer.

A return to the same valley with a tighter walking radius. The Oct 2016 hike covered 8 villages in 2 days; this Aug 2017 hike covered Moieciu de Sus + Cheia + Fundățica in 1 walking day. Summer-heat economy of movement.
