Thirteen days, 2,717 photos, the canonical Classical Egypt itinerary
5 - 17 February 2022
Read from 2,717 photo timestamps across the full Cairo - Aswan - Luxor longitudinal axis and 1 tracked hike at the Tombs of the Nobles in Aswan.
The argument
Flew Bucharest to Istanbul to Cairo, gave four days to Cairo, Alexandria and Giza - the Pyramids morning and the long drive up to Alexandria the loudest of them - then flew south to Aswan for Abu Simbel and a four-day Nile cruise down to Luxor, stopping at Kom Ombo, Edfu and Esna. A flight back to Cairo bought a final Saqqara, Memphis and Abusir day among the older pyramids. The single biggest day was Luxor’s West Bank - the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon - and the whole trip ran at a relentlessly high photographic pace, one of the densest fortnights we have on record.

A canonically-Egyptian itinerary - off-path scoring isn’t useful here. The trip’s value is in the completeness of the canonical sites plus the deliberate Alexandria + Saqqara extensions that most short Egypt trips skip.
absentWestern DesertEgypt’s off-path interior (White Desert, Bahariya). The trip chose the Nile axis instead - no Western Desert touch.
absentSiwa OasisThe far-west oasis near the Libyan border - not visited.
absentMt SinaiEgypt’s pilgrim peak on the Sinai peninsula - not visited.
absentSt Catherine's MonasteryThe Sinai monastery at the foot of Mt Sinai - not visited.
absentMosque of Muhammad AliThe Islamic-Cairo mosque circuit at the Saladin Citadel - zero photos at the citadel coords across the two Cairo days.
absentIbn Tulun MosqueCairo’s oldest intact mosque - zero photos at the coord on either Cairo day.
absentDahshur (Red + Bent pyramids)The Feb 16 secondary-pyramids day went to Saqqara, Memphis (Mit Rahinah) and Abusir; the Dahshur field 10 km further south shows zero photos.
absentHigh DamZero photos at the dam coord on Feb 10 - the Aswan afternoon was a Nubian-village boat trip on the west bank instead.
absentPhilae TempleZero photos at the temple-island coord on Feb 10 - the Aswan afternoon went to the riverside villages rather than to Philae.
A comprehensive classical-Egypt loop along the Nile + pyramids axis, deliberately without the modern Red Sea or desert-adventure extensions. The skips inside the itinerary (the Islamic-Cairo mosque circuit, the High Dam and Philae, the Dahshur pyramid field) suggest monument depth over monument breadth on each stop.
