The argument
A month living in Seville, mid-February into late March 2019, with eight substantial day-trips fanning out across Andalusia, Morocco and Gibraltar. The rhythm is live in Seville, then go somewhere new every few days: a long base broken up by quiet city days and punctuated by the loud ones - a day in Cádiz, an overnight in Tangier across the strait, the photo-peak Saturday at Gibraltar, two trips into the Doñana / Huelva country, the three-day Antequera-Granada-Málaga arc east, and Ronda and the white villages to finish. The Real Alcázar got nine separate visits - the place we returned to most.

The signature

Hike profile
Upper Rock + Apes' Den (likely)
Almost three hundred photos out of one tiny territory in a single Saturday - the densest day of the whole month. The shape of the walk reads as the classic Gibraltar day: up onto the Upper Rock, the Apes’ Den, the long views back over the strait. The drive there added a white-village stop at Alcalá de los Gazules on the way.
bimodal · 14 quiet days (1-20 photos) + 9 peak days (100-299 photos)
The Real Alcázar, returned to on nine separate days - the trip’s true gravity well, not a one-and-done monument but a garden we kept coming back to, the way you treat a park you live near.
Feb 17-22 - the settle-in week: easy Seville walks, learning the streets, no excursions yet.
Feb 23 - the first big day out, a train south to Cádiz for the old town, the cathedral, the seafront castles and the Atlantic.
Feb 24-25 - Tangier, the ferry from Tarifa and an overnight across the strait - the trip’s only night spent away from Seville.
Feb 26 - Mar 1 - four quiet Seville days, the residency rhythm reasserting itself.
Mar 2 - the Gibraltar Saturday, the densest day of the whole month, up onto the Rock.
Mar 3 - the Doñana and Huelva country: Almonte, Niebla, Moguer and the Columbus villages, the wetland and the history folded into one day.
Mar 4-7 - four more quiet days at the base.
Mar 8 - the Antequera-Ardales-Málaga arc east: the El Torcal karst and the gateway to the Caminito del Rey.
Mar 9 - Granada and Almuñécar, a long day east, the Alhambra most likely walked from its grounds rather than inside.
Mar 10 - a Málaga-coast wind-down before the drive back to Seville.
Mar 11-15 - five recovery days, the month at its quietest.
Mar 16 - a return to Doñana - Almonte, Moguer, Palos de la Frontera again, the place that earned a second visit.
Mar 17 - Ronda and the white villages, including Setenil de las Bodegas tucked under its rock and Júzcar, the blue Smurf village.
Mar 18-19 - the final wind-down and the flight home via Frankfurt.

Spain + Morocco + Gibraltar — all from the Seville base
Anchor reuse
Seville reused 24×; other coords ~all single-visit
Ronda + Pueblos Blancos~30%Ronda mainstream, secondary villages off-path
Setenil / Júzcar~55%the deeper Pueblos Blancos
The trip-level ~30% off-path hides the structure: anchor + canonical city excursions (Seville, Granada, Cádiz, Ronda, Gibraltar) sit at 5-20% while the Doñana-area villages (Almonte, Hinojos, Moguer) and the deeper Pueblos Blancos (Setenil, Júzcar, Cañete la Real) are at 55-75%. These are real off-path Andalusia — the equivalent of inland-Mallorca’s Costitx in 2017.

absentCórdoba (city + Mezquita + Cathedral)Coord-checked at all three coords: 0 photos. Andalusia’s #4 city, only 140 km from Seville by train — never visited. The trip’s most surprising absence.
absentPicasso Museum MálagaCoord-checked: 0 photos at the museum despite the Mar 10 Málaga old-town walk passing within 200 m.
absentAlhambra interiorMar 9 touched Granada but only 131 photos for city + coast — likely walked the Alhambra grounds, not booked the heavily-restricted interior.
absentAlpujarras villages south of GranadaNatural extension of the Mar 9 Granada day — not visited.
absentDoñana actual park interior (the wetlands)Mar 3 + Mar 16 visited surrounding villages, not the protected zones that require guided tour.
absentTangier Kasbah interior275 photos in one day is dense but the medina is interior-restricted; many of those are likely street-level only.
absentSeville's Triana flamenco district10 photos at the Triana coord across 3 days — possibly walked but not photographically distinguished from broader Seville activity.
A trip about being somewhere rather than collecting sights. We lived in Seville for a month and used it to taste Andalusia widely rather than deeply. The one genuinely surprising absence is Córdoba - close, famous, easy by train - skipped precisely because it would have been a half-day of travel just to check a box, and that wasn’t what this month was for.
Hiking in Tenerife's Teide National Park is like hiking on the moon. At least this is how we think the moon looks like from the movies that were shot here.
